October 2003 Meeting

Word 2002 – What we have Learned
Word 2003 – What’s
Next?

For this upcoming meeting, we’ll have an informative presentation by nationwide integrator Kraft Kennedy & Lesser.  Kraft Kennedy & Lesser has extensive experience in the legal environment offering a broad range of services including strategic planning, network design, implementation, software development and other consulting services.

We’ll start the meeting with a discussion about what we have learned about Word 2002 a year after its arrival.  At previous meetings, we previewed the new features – now we’ll talk about which ones have worked as expected and which ones have presented problems.  Is the “Task Pane” what were looking for?  How do the myriad of Settings and Options work for us?  What are the glitches we’ve encountered?

Next, we’ll turn our attention to the newest version of Word – 2003.  Be at the meeting to learn about XML format - what it is and its possible uses in the legal environment.  We’ll cover the network set-up requirements necessary to fully support these features. You’ll also learn about the new security/rights options, including locking down formatting in documents, and improvements in Word’s collaboration features including Track Changes and Review/Markup.

To accommodate firms located in different parts of the city, we will be repeating the meeting, holding it first in Downtown Los Angeles, followed by the Westside. A lunch will be catered compliments of King-Herpel and the law firms sponsoring the meetings.  We would like to thank the firms of  Squire, Sanders & Dempsey and Sullivan & Cromwell for accommodating us with this session.
